Opening in 2019, the second outpost of London’s most famous whisky shop, Milroy’s of Soho, was set across four floors in the East End of London, just beyond the City. With a ground floor whisky bar offering 1000 whiskies, a basement cocktail bar – the Proofing Room this time, rather than the Vault – a tasting room, and the Dram House, a first floor private members club with a cigar terrace, this was a serious statement of intent from Simo and the team.

The Dram House oozed class, the Proofing room vibed laid-back chill, and the range of whiskies was unparalleled in the east end of London, as was only to be expected from the original London whisky shop. Milroys of Spitalfields was a welcome oasis in the East End hustle.
It served a varied clientele of Traders from the City, Techies from Silicon roundabout, bankers and barrow boys, medics and marketers, and passersby grateful for stumbling upon this distant outpost of the distillers art.

Milroy’s of Spitalfields closed in 2023 after a brief but highly appreciated1 run, as the team elected to focus on the Soho store.

Footnotes
- Highly appreciated by me certainly, as the bar was only a short walk from my regular training spot in the Minories. 😉 Shout out to Gary and the guys in the Peacock. ↩︎
