An excellent cask strength dram from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society
Roadtested in the SMWS Kaleidoscope Bar, Edinburgh.
A great bar providing safe haven from city madness, the Kaleidoscope Bar is one of Edinburgh’s best-kept secrets.
While the rest of the SMWS Georgian townhouse in Queen Street is members-only, the Kaleidoscope Bar is open to the public and was named Icons of Whisky Global Bar of the Year in Whisky Magazine’s World Whisky Awards 2022.

Flavour profile
Nose: Moss and oak and peat and sea and everything island.
Palate: Sweet peat, honey and brown sugar with a pinch of sea salt, sea breeze, .
Finish: Short and sweet, brown sugar, caramel.
A gorgeous sweet dram with an undercurrent of peat to drag you into the depths to be lost forever. One of my favourite ever SMWS whiskies.

2024
Elon Musk caught the largest flying object ever with a pair of chopsticks, Taylor Swift toured the planet, Margrethe II formally abdicated as Queen of Denmark, Spain won the European Championships and Argentina won the Copa América. Alexei Navalany died in a Russian jail, Lee Hsien Loong stepped down as Prime Minister of Singapore after 20 years, the Assad regime was toppled in Syria, four billion people had the opportunity to vote in democratic elections with a resulting global distancing from the failing left, and Donald Trump was elected President of America for the second time.
On the personal side, I painfully reminded myself why, at my age, I shouldn’t ride World Championship Downhill Mountain Bike courses. 😉
